ITINUTURING ng isang mambabatas na pagtatakip sa kanyang atraso ang pag-aappoint ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte kay dating Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Benjamin Diokno bilang bagong Governor ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
Lunes ng gabi ay itinalaga ni Duterte si Diokno bilang BSP Governor kapalit ng namayapang si BSP Governor Ernesto Espenilla subalit hindi nagustuhan ito ng kanilang kritiko sa Kamara.
“Pres. Duterte continues his abominable practice of shielding his appointees from public accountability by recycling them to other posts,” pahayag ni ACT Teachers party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio.
Imbes na panagutin aniya si Diokno sa kanyang mga atraso ay mistulang binigyan pa ito ng pabuya matapos iluklok sa pinakamakapangyarihang economic position sa gobyerno.
Si Diokno ay inimbestigahan ng Kamara sa P75 Billion insertions nito sa 2019 national budget at maging ang pagbibigay umano ito ng pabor sa kanyang mga in-laws sa Casiguran, Sorsogon nang buhusan niya ang flood control projects ang nasabing lugar noong 2017 at 2018.
“As DBM Secretary, he consistently opposed the granting of substantial salary increases to civilian government personnel, public school teachers in particular, despite pronouncements made by Pres. Duterte himself,” ani Tinio hinggil sa ibang atraso umano ni Diokno.
Pero sinuportahan naman ni Eastern Samar Rep. Ben Evardone ang appointment ni Diokno sa BSP dahil makatutulong umano sa financial sector ang kanyang karanasan at kakayahan.
“I think he will continue the efforts of the BSP to tame inflation and be a catalyst for development, especially now that we have just amended the central bank act to empower more the bsp in sustaining economic growth and ensuring financial stability,” ani Evardone, dating chair ng House committee on banks and intermediaries.
