MABABAWASAN ang trabaho at responsibilidad ng Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) at Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) kapag naitatag na ang Department of Overseas Filipino Workers.
Ito ang nabatid sa ACT OFW Coalition of Organization na labis na ikinatuwa ang pahayag ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na kailangang maitatag na ang OFW Department bago matapos ang taong 2019.
Ayon sa grupo na pinamumunuan ni dating Rep. Aniceto Bertiz III, hihiwalay na sa DOLE ang Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) at Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
Maging ang Philippine Overseas Labor Offices (POLOs) na nasa ilalim ng DOLE ay lilipat na sa OFW Department kasama na ang Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) na nasa pamumuno naman ng Office of the President.
Maililipat din sa bagong Departamento ang Office of Migrant Workers Affairs at Office of the Legal Assistant for Migrant Workers Affairs na nasa ilalim naman ng DFA.
“This is a dream coming true for our OFWs. We welcome the President’s decision to finally establish a new department that will rigorously supervise the recruitment of Filipinos for jobs abroad so as to curb rampant abuse,” ani Bertiz.
Noong nakaraang Kongreso ay ipinanukala ang nasabing departamento subalit hindi ito naipasa kaya muling ihahain umano ito ngayong 18th Congress kung saan umaasa si Bertiz na magkakaroon na ng katuparan.
“We are counting on the new department to carry out government policies, strategies and programs to protect and advance the rights and welfare of the growing number of Filipinos toiling outside the country,” ayon pa kay Bertiz.
Sa ngayon ay mahigit 10 million Filipino ang nagtatrabaho sa iba’t ibang panig ng bansa kabilang na ang mga nasyon sa Gitnang Silangan kung saan karamihan sa mga OFWs ay mga kasambahay.
