HINIKAYAT ni Senador Sherwin Gatchalian sa pamahalaan ang pagtatayo ng world-class think tank na mag-aaral sa supply ng krudo sa bansa sa gitna ng panibagong pagtataas ng presyo ng produktong petrolyo.
Ayon kay Senador Sherwin Gatchalian, kailangan nang kumilos ang pamahalaan sa research and policy gaps sa Philippine energy sector sa pag-asang masiguro na hindi mahihirapan ang taumbayan.
Tugon na rin nito ni Gatchalian, chairman ng Senate Committee on Energy, kasunod ng ginawang pag-atake sa oil fields sa Saudi Arabia dahilan upang tumaas ang presyo ng produktong petrolyo.
Sa pinakahuling pagtataya, umakyat na sa 11 porsiyento ng global oil prices kung kaya’t dapat na kumilos na ang pamahalaan.
Inihain ni Gatchalian ang Senate Bill No. 172 o An Act Creating the Philippine Energy Research and Policy Institute (PERPI), para magkaroon ng local energy research and policy center ang bansa na makatutulong upang hindi magulat sa pagsirit ng pagtatas na presyo ng langis.
“The vision for this bill is really to enable the government and the academe to level up the knowledge base and the research capabilities of the energy sector. The creation of PERPI is crucial for the country since we are dependent on a lot of importation when it comes to energy. Over the weekend, the attack on Saudi oil fields leaves us vulnerable to a lot of supply shock,” aniya pa.
