BUKAS si presidential frontrunner dating Sen. Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos sa plano na kunin bilang ka-partner ang pribadong sektor upang dagdagan pa ang mga geothermal plants sa bansa.
Sa isang pahayag, napansin niya ang mabagal na pag-usbong ng geothermal energy industry na dahilan kung bakit mataas ang singil ng kuryente na siya namang pumipigil sa mga foreign investors na maglagay ng negosyo sa bansa.
“Accelerating the development of our geothermal resources needs the participation of the private sector. As it stands, the risks and capital requirements in the early stages of exploration are high, ” sabi ng pambato ng PFP.
“That is why we need to come up with a risk-sharing or cost mitigation agreement with potential investors for them to get involved,” dagdag ni Marcos.
“Geothermal energy is an ideal energy source for the country since it is clean, reliable, and environment-friendly. Also, since we are situated along the Pacific Ring of Fire, our country possibly has the highest untapped geothermal energy reserves in the world,” pagpapatuloy ni Marcos.
Ang Pilipinas ay pangatlo sa mga bansa sa mundo na may pinakamataas na geothermal power generation capacity noong 2021, sumunod sa Indonesia at sa United States.
Nasa ikapito at ikaapat ang Pilipinas na may pinakamalaking geothermal facilities na nag-ooperate sa buong mundo tulad ng Tiwi at Makiling-Banahaw (Mak-Ban) power plants.
Sa kasalukuyan ang bansa ay may pitong geothermal power plants na may installed capacity na 1,918 megawatts (MW) na nagsusuply ng 12% ng enerhiya na kailangan ng bansa.
“We will push for the necessary policy and regulatory reforms needed to fast-track geothermal energy development in the country. Together with this, we are considering creating a government body that would focus solely on geothermal explorations,” sabi ni Marcos.
Ang geothermal energy ay maaasahan at matatag kung kaya’t ito ay ginagamit bilang baseload energy source sa electrical grid ng bansa.
Ang energy blueprint ni Marcos ay naglalayon ng sapat, maaasahan, at abot-kayang koryente para sa bawat Pilipino.
Para maisakatuparan ito, isinusulong din niya ang paggamit ng nuclear energy bilang bahagi ng energy mix ng bansa.
