PERSONAL na pinasalamatan ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang United Arab Emirates (UAE) sa suporta para sa Pilipinas at napapanahong pagtulong sa mga pamilyang apektado ng nag-aalborotong Mayon Volcano sa Albay province.
“Thank you very much. I cannot go further without thanking the UAE for the very timely assistance that you provided the victims of the explosion of our volcano,” ang sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos kay UAE Ambassador to the Philippines Mohamed Obaid Salem Alqataam Alzaabi na nag-courtesy visit sa kanya sa Palasyo ng Malakanyang, nitong Martes.
Bago pa ang courtesy call, tinanggap nina Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. at Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian ang mahigit 50 tons ng humanitarian aid mula sa UAE government para sa Mayon Volcano-affected residents.
Para naman sa UAE government officials, tiniyak nito kay Pangulong Marcos na handa silang tulungan ang Pilipinas at ang mamamayan nito hindi lamang tuwing “trying times” kundi maging sa panahon ng “good times.”
“Thank you. That is very, very generous of you,” ayon sa Pangulo, binigyang-diin na makagaganti rin ang Pilipinas sa kabutihan ng UAE government sa mamamayang Pilipino.
“Unfortunately, the Philippines falls victim not only to volcano explosions, but of course to typhoons, and earthquakes. We are in that part of the world where we are vulnerable. We are hoping that the activity of the volcano will start to calm. But we cannot say that for sure, but we are watching it closely,” dagdag na wika nito. (CHRISTIAN DALE)
