WALANG bahid ng pagtutol ang isang prominenteng kongresista sa pasya ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., na magtalaga ng bagong liderato ng Bureau of Customs (BOC).
Gayunpaman, may hamon si House Ways and Means Committee chairman Rep. Joey Salceda sa bagong hirang na Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio – alamin at bigyang solusyon ang makupad na pag-usad ng siento-por-sientong modernisasyon ng kawanihang nangangasiwa sa pagpasok at paglabas ng mga kalakal sa mga pantalan at paliparan.
“My first request to Commissioner Rubio would be to look into bottlenecks in implementing the BOC’s computerization,” saad ni Salceda, kasabay ng giit sa kahalagahan ng modernisadong kawanihan sa kampanya ng pamahalaan laban sa malawakang smuggling sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng bansa.
“This, based on our studies, would be one of the most effective ways to limit technical and outright smuggling in our ports,” aniya pa.
Paglilinaw ng kongresista, suportado niya ang pagsampa sa pwesto ni Rubio.
“Commissioner Rubio worked under the Assessment and Operations Coordinating Group prior to his appointment as full-time commissioner. I am thus hopeful that he would act immediately to curtail rampant undervaluation in our ports,” paliwanag ng kongresista.
“I am also hopeful that he would be able to help address the perennial issues of misdeclaration, especially in palm oil, wheat, and other key agricultural commodities where there are differences in tariff among similar products,” dagdag pa niya.
