TUMATAGINTING na P1.5 bilyong halaga ng mga palsipikadong signature items ang nasabat kamakailan ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) sa Lungsod ng Pasay.
Sa isang pahayag ng BOC, silat sa operasyon kontra smuggling na ikinasa ng Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service-Intellectual Property Rights Division (CIIS-IPRD) ang isang bodega sa panulukan ng FB Harrison Avenue at Kalye J. Fernando sa nasabing lungsod sa gawing timog ng National Capital Region.
Ayon kay Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio, higit na kailangan ang mas masigasig na kampanya ng kawanihan laban sa mga aktibidades na lubhang nakakasakit sa kabuhayan ng mga Pilipino.
“Our people target, detect, intercept, and thereby prevent the entry of these contraband items before they can do any harm to our markets,” ani Rubio.
“These counterfeit items not only jeopardize these brand names, but also seriously undermine our own local brands. It is therefore our mandate in the BOC to stop these deals and ensure a fair trade for foreign and local brands,” dagdag pa niya.
Samantala, nangako si Intelligence Group Deputy Commissioner Juvymax Uy na mas paigtingin pa ang pagtugis sa mga sumasabotahe sa ekonomiya ng bansa.
Gayunpaman, aminado si Uy na higit na mahirap ang hamon sa kakaibang istilo ng mga sindikatong gumagamit na ng mga pamamaraang sopistikado.
“Discovering P1.5 billion worth of counterfeit items is no small joke, especially because these people are now becoming more sophisticated in the way they bring these products through our borders,” pahayag ni Uy na personal na pinangasiwaan ang operasyon sa Pasay.
“But while this latest operation is an extraordinary feat, we acknowledge that more work needs to be done to stop these once and for all,” dagdag pa niya.
Wala rin aniyang ipinakita ang may-ari ng bodega ng mga dokumentong patunay na lehitimo ang mga tumambad na kalakal, gayundin ang resibo ng pinagbayarang buwis at taripa sa kawanihan.
Patuloy ang isinasagawang imbentaryo sa iba pang tinatawag niyang “genuinely fake signature items.”
“Further investigation is also underway for other possible violations of the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines (RA 8293) and the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (RA 10863),” ayon sa BOC. (JO CALIM)
