BUCOR’s 119TH FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY

THE Bureau of Corrections will commence tomorrow its weeklong celebration of the agency’s 119th Founding Anniversary with various activities lined up to mark this milestone occasion.

With the theme “Correctional Advancement and Excellence: Celebrating Bucor’s legacy and future, the festivities will kick off with the mass promotion of 300 dedicated personnel while 138 uniformed and 19 civilian personnel will be sworn into office, said of Bucor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr.

The week’s lineup of events also includes a bazaar exhibit, Zumba dance competition, mini Olympic Games, medical completion, graduation of corrections officers candidate course class 2024-01, Donning of Ranks for Commissioned Officers, and a culminating activity.

Catapang also expressed gratitude to the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP), led by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Meynardo Sabili, for offering legal aid to 100 individuals deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Minimum Security Camp of the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City during their recent visit.

The PCUP delegation, consisting of attorneys and law students from the Perpetual System DALTA, assisted eligible PDLs in parole, pending cases, and cases under appeal.

This Legal Assistance Event was part of PCUP’s involvement in the upcoming 119th Founding Anniversary celebrations of Bucor this week.

Sabili assured the Bucor of their commitment to supporting the agency in reintegrating released PDLs through livelihood programs and requested the Bucor to provide profiles of soon-to-be-released PDLs for relocation assistance.

The Bucor expressed its gratitude to the PCUP officials and staff for selecting them as recipients of legal assistance and for being one with them in the celebration this year of their founding anniversary.(Danny Bacolod)
