PORMAL na tatanggihan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte ang imbitasyon ni US President Donald Trump sa kanya na bumisita sa Washington.
“He said he would respond to the invitation and will decline,” ayon kay Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo.
Ang desisyon ni Duterte ay walang kinalaman sa ginawang paglagda ni President Trump sa US Fiscal Year 2020 State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Act kung saan nakapaloob ang probisyon na nagba-ban sa mga Philippine government officials na sangkot sa pagpapakulong kay Senador Leila de Lima.
“He said he never intended to visit the US naman ever since,” ayon kay Panelo
Taong 2017 nang imbitahan ni Trump si Pangulong Duterte na bumisita sa White House.
Noong Hulyo ng nakaraang taon ay sinabi ng Pangulo na ayaw niya ng mahabang byahe.
Bukod pa rito ay hectic din ang iskedyul ng Pangulo kaya’t malamang na hindi niya talaga matupad ang imbitasyon ni Trump.
At sa tanong kung dapat pang masamain ni Pangulong Duterte ang ginawang pagtinta ni President Trump sa budget law kungvsaan nakapaloob ang probinsyon ng entry ban, ay sinabi ni Panelo na ‘no.’
“No. Kasi unang-una, I have already repeatedly said, it’s not naman self-executory eh. The law itself says if there is credible information received by the one who will decide – and the one who will decide will be the Secretary of State.
“And that is why even the Ambassador, as I related to you, when we had an encounter in one party the other night, he said eh sa Congress naman eh,” aniya pa rin.
