PINUNA ng mga miyembro ng minorya sa Senado ang patuloy na pagmamatigas ng pamahalaan na
sumunod sa desisyon ng United Nations Human Rights Council – Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (UNHRC-WGAD) na nag-aaatas na palayain na sa piitan si Senador Leila de Lima.
Sa inihaing Senate Resolution No. 1019, ng minority group sa Senado, hiniling ng mga ito kinauukulang ahensya ng pamahalaan na sumunod sa rekomendasyon ng UNHRC-WGAD sa inilabas nitong 13-page Opinion sa 82nd session noong Agosto 24.
“The Philippines as a member of the United Nations should always endeavor to ‘fulfill in good faith the obligations assumed by them in according with the present Charter’ as mandated by Article 2 paragraph 2 of the UN Charter,” nakasaad sa SR 1019 na nilagdaan nina Senate Minority Leader Franklin M. Drilon, Senador Francis N. Pangilinan, Antonio F. Trillanes, Paolo Benigno Aquino IV at Risa Hontiveros.
“The Philippines as a member of the UNHRC must faithfully comply with its obligation to promote, protect and uphold the human rights of all regardless of sex, race, religion, or political beliefs, and opinions,” dagdag pa ng mga ito.
Sinasabing ang rekomendasyo ng UN working panel sa Philippine government na agad sundin ang utos nito na naaayon sa Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
