BILANG preparasyon marahil sa pagpapalit ng liderato ng Kamara, itinalaga na ng administration party na PDP-Laban si Marinduque Rep. Lord Alan Velasco bilang lider ng kanilang partido sa Kamara.
Si Velasco ang kapalit ni House Speaker Allan Peter Ceyatano ng miyembro ng National Party (NP) sa Oktubre 2020 matapos magkasundo ang dalawa sa term-sharing sa liderato ng Kamara sa natitirang tatlong taon ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa kapangyarihan.
“I am humbled and honored by the decision of the leadership of PDP-Laban to appoint yours truly as party head in the House of Representatives. This fresh step by the party leadership is a welcome development, as this will further strengthen unity and camaraderie among PDP-Laban members,” ani Velasco.
Sa pamamagitan ng pamumuno ni Velasco sa PDP-Laban sa Kamara, nakakuha ang partido ng 19 chairmanship sa mga pangunahing komite sa kapulungan bukod sa 58 vice chairmanship.
Nakuha rin ng partido ang 6 na deputy speaker seat, tatlong deputy majority leader at tig-isang majority at assistant minority leader seat, at mula din sa partido ang mamumuno sa House contingent sa makapangyarihang Commission on Appointment at House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) ngayong 18th Congress sa ilalim ng liderato ni Cayetano.
“For this, we are grateful to House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano for naming members of PDP-Laban to various committees and important posts in the bigger chamber, cognizant of the role of our political party as an important ally in accomplishing the Duterte administration’s plans and programs through legislation,” ayon pa kay Velasco.
Si dating House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez na pinatalsik ni dating House speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo noong 2018 sa speakership, ang dating namumuno sa nasabing partido.
