INIHAYAG ni Senador Sherwin Gatchalian na umabot sa P116 milyon ang nalugi sa ekonomiya sa franchise area ng Meralco lamang sanhi ng 2-araw na rotating brownout sa Luzon grid noong nakaraang linggo.

Sa kanyang opening remarks sa ginanap na imbestigasyon kung bakit nagkaroon ng preventive shutdown sa ilang planta, sinabi ni Gatchalian noong nakaraang Mayo 31 at Hunyo 1, nagkaroon ng rotational brownout sa maraming bahagi ng bansa na lubhang naapektuhan ang aabot sa 705,000 customer sa loob ng 2 araw.

“Sa franchise areas lamang ito ng Meralco,” ayon kay Gatchalian.

“We ran estimates, we valued [that] the two-day loss equated to P116 million in economic losses. This is only taken within the Meralco franchise, [we’re] not even talking about the economic losses experienced by the electric coops,” dagdag niya.

Pinakamalaking electricity distributiong company ang Meraclo na may franchise area na 9,685 square kilometers na sumasakop sa 36 lungsod at 75 munisipalidad kabilang ang Metro Manila at lahat ng lalawigan ng Rizal, Cavite at Bulacan, at bahagi ng Pampanga, Batangas, Laguna at Quezon.

Naranasan ang rotating brownouts ng mga power consumer sa Luzon noong nakaraang linggo matapos ipatupad ng National Grid Corp. of the Philippines ang manual load dropping upang mapanatili ang integridad ng kanilang sistema dahil kapos ang suplay ng enerhiya sanhi ng unplanned outages ng ilang power plants habang mataas ang konsumo.

Hiningi ng Department of Energy (DOE) ang tulong ng Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), Philippine Competition Commission (PCC), at Department of Justice (DOJ) sa posibleng sabwatan ng generation firms.

Ayon kay Gatchalian na higit kailangan ngayon ang tuloy-tuloy na suplay ng enerhiya dahil nagsimula nang umangkat ng sariling bakuna ang pribadong sektor at local government units.

“I saw on the news that by the end of this month we will have approximately 21 million vaccines in inventory in the country. So meaning the whole country will be rolling out activities,” ayon kay Gatchalian.

“More so we need electricity to be present and continuous because of this vaccine rollout,” giit pa niya. (ESTONG REYES)
