PINAGTIBAY nina Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at US President Joseph Biden ang serye ng “partnerships” na naglalayon palakasin ang alyansa ng Maynila at Washington.
Sa isang joint statement, kapwa pinuri nina Pangulong Marcos at Biden ang “remarkable ties of friendship, community, and shared sacrifice that serve as the foundation of the U.S.-Philippines alliance.”
“In efforts to promote inclusive and broad-based prosperity, invest in the clean energy transition and the fight against climate change, uphold international peace and stability, and ensure respect for human rights and the rule of law, the United States and the Philippines will remain the closest of allies, working together to deliver a better future for our citizens and tackle the emerging challenges of the twenty-first century,” ang nakasaad sa joint statement.
Sa kabilang dako, kapwa naman winelcome nina Pangulong Marcos at Biden ang identification o pagkakakilanlan ng bagong sites sa ilalim ng US-Philippines Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA).
Kakayahan ng AFP palalakasin
Inihayag din ng White House ang planong pagpapahusay sa kakayahan ng Sandatahang Lakas ng Pilipinas.
Sa ibinahaging Fact Sheet ng White House; Investing in the Special Friendship and Alliance Between the United States and the Philippines, inihayag ng US ang layon na ilipat sa Sandatahang Lakas ng Pilipinas ang dalawang Island-class patrol vessels, dalawang Protector-class patrol vessels, at tatlong C-130H aircraft, habang nakabinbin ang mga kinakailangan sa notification ng Kongreso.
Bukod pa rito, dalawang Cyclone-class coastal patrol vessels na ang inilipat sa Pilipinas noong huling bahagi ng Abril, at ngayon ay patungo na sa Maynila. Ang mga paglilipat na ito ay suporta sa programa ng modernisasyon ng Armed Forces of the Philippines sa pamamagitan ng pagpapahusay sa mga kakayahan nito sa maritime at tactical lift.
“The United States also remains ironclad in our commitment to the defense of the Philippines, including the South China Sea. And we are going to continue to support the Philippines’ military modernization goals,” pahayag ni Biden.
Muli ring siniguro ni Biden na nananatiling iron clad ang pangako ng US sa Pilipinas na depensahan ang bansa, kabilang na sa South China Sea, sa gitna ng umiigting na tensyon sa rehiyon. (CHRISTIAN DALE/JESSE KABEL RUIZ)
