KUKUMPISKAHIN ng mga awtoridad ang imported pompano at pink salmon na ibebenta sa wet markets simula Disyembre 4 batay sa umiiral na restriksyon.
Kinumpirma ng Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) na ito’y offshoot ng information drive sa 21 wet markets sa Kalakhang Maynila mula Nobyembre 24 hanggang Disyembre 3.
Sa naunang kalatas, sinabi ng ahensiya na ang pagbebenta ng imported pompano at pink salmon sa wet markets ay ipinagbabawal sa ilalim ng Fisheries Administrative Order 195, dahil ito ay para lamang sa “canning, processing, at institutional buyers” gaya ng hotel at restaurants.
Winika pa ng BFAR na hindi kasama ang pompano at pink salmon sa certificate of necessity to import (CNI) na ipinalabas noong Nobyembre, kung saan nakalista ang fish products na maaaring mabili sa wet markets.
“As the government allows fish importation anew in order to fill in the supply gap while our conservation measures are in place and keep the prices of our fish commodities in the retail markets stable, the DA-BFAR conducts this IEC (information, education, and communication) campaign that will help safeguard the livelihood of our local fishers and prevent competition between our local and imported fish products,” ayon kay BFAR officer-in-charge Demosthenes Escoto.
Samantala, hinikayat naman ng grupo ng mga mangingisda na Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (PAMALAKAYA) ang BFAR na labanan ang import-liberalization policies at sa halip ay habulin at tugisin ang mga ordinary retailers na napilitan lamang na magbenta ng mura at imported na isda.
