TINAWAG ni Senador Aquilino ‘Koko’ Pimentel III na ‘desperation’ ang aksyon ng PDP-Laban Cusi faction na kumbinsihin si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na kumandidato bilang senador sa susunod na taon.

“Shows desperation on the part of Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi and his group,” saad ni Pimentel.

“They give the impression that they do not have strong candidates within their group and that they are all simply riding on and are totally dependent on the popularity and strength of personality of the incumbent president,” dagdag pa ng senador.

Sinabi ni Pimentel na maituturing itong ‘personality politics’ na nais nilang tuldukan hangga’t maaari.

Binigyang-diin ng senador na ang dapat gawin ng mga political party ay palawakin ang ‘issues-based politics.’

“The good future of our country is better assured by a program of government approved by the people through their votes than by blind loyalty to a mortal person with the expectation of a return favor,” paliwanag pa ng senador.

Nauna rito, napag-usapan umano sa ruling party ang posibleng pagtakbo ni Pangulong Duterte sa pagka-senador.

“Napag-uusapan po iyan dahil nga yung mga Pilipino ay naghahanap ng tatay, yung totoong tatay na nagmamahal sa mga anak,” ayon kay Senador Christopher ‘Bong’ Go.

Matatandaang nagsimula si Pangulong Duterte bilang vice-mayor ng Davao City, naging alkalde at naging mambabatas din ito sa Kamara noong 1998. (DANG SAMSON-GARCIA/CHRISTIAN DALE)
