THE Cultural Center of the Philippines donated various books and other publications to a youth group called Lahat ng Bata in Singalong, Manila.
A variety of publications ranging from books for children from the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY), publications of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), as well as book donations collected from the Performatura Festival 2019 were turned over to Lahat ng Bata on May 27, 2021.  Some of these books served as admission tickets during the three-day Performance Literature Festival last April 5-7, 2019 with the policy, one book is equivalent to a whole day admission.
The youth group intends to make reading accessible to the poorest families in the neighborhood who could not afford to buy books or learning materials.  Thus, they put up the Lahat ng Bata Community Library.  It was set up along Pag-asa Street in Zapanta, Singalong, Manila, to promote the joy of reading to neighborhood kids reeling from months-long isolation at home.  Pag-asa Street is a community near De La Salle-College of St. Benilde, St. Scholastica’s College, and an estero (inlet canal).
The community library gives readers an access to various book genres such as children’s literature to fiction, self-help books, psychology and philosophy books, even Filipiniana books, among other reading materials. Learning materials from grade school to college are also available.

In Ang Pagdadalaga Ni Lola Mayumi, a virginal old woman hires a callboy to change her perspective about men. Ate O.G. tells about a struggling aging house helper who finds herself going through an unexpected and uplifting experience.

A young woman struggles to find herself after losing her father during World War II in Beauty Queen. On the other hand, a desperate robber is forced to choose whether he should become a hero to his victims or fall victim to a robbery himself in Crossing.

Kawatan sa Ilog is about a mischievous child learns the value of time and life as he finds his way back home to his father. Kids on Fire is the story of a prepubescent boy who discovers the power of his sexuality during a religious camp.

Looking For Rafflesias And Other Fleeting Things narrates how a tikbalang transforms into a teenage boy to disprove the rumor that horse demons are killing civilians in the mountain.

A disposed facemask turns into a humanoid and starts an adventure looking for its previous owner in Maski Papano, while a grandmother and her baby grandson find solace in each other and face the harsh reality of the pandemic together in Namnama En Lolang.

Out Of Body takes the audience in a macabre commercial shoot with a young model. Meanwhile, career and friendship are on the line when a comic strip artist tells her writer the truths about his relationships in The Dust In Your Place.

On its 17th year, the film festival re-thinks its direction and strategy to remain significant in the contemporary time, while continuing to fulfill its mission of discovering, encouraging, supporting, training and recognizing gifted Filipino independent filmmakers.

While Cinemalaya has remained the vanguard of the Philippine independent filmmaking since its inception in 2005, the Selection Committee has observed that submissions for the Main Competition have become predictable and followed recurrent themes such as gender, poverty, and social inequalities.

To unearth new cinematic voices and develop a growing audience for independent cinema for its 2023 edition, the Cinemalaya introduces new direction and further expands its cinematic boundaries through the Cinemalaya Film Lab, a three-month-long film-laboratory mentorship program happening on September to November 2021.

The CCP will open its ground with a hybrid drive-in cinema, dubbed Cinema Under the Stars, where film habitués can watch a film in the hybrid drive-in cinema at Liwasang Ullalim. The first audience-centered on-site event since the lockdown, the hybrid outdoor cinema welcomes everyone, whether they are riding their cars or bikes, or even just walking and jogging.

Meanwhile, the Cinemalaya mainstays remain. Gawad CCP Para sa Alternatibong Pelikula at Video, the longest-running independent film and video competition in Asia, will also continue its run this year.

Visions of Asia, one of the major components of the film festival, will screen award-winning indie films from Asia; while IndieNation showcases notable and critically acclaimed feature length and short films produced in the past year that will have a continued run at Cinemalaya.

Don’t miss out on other components such as the Cinemalaya Retrospectives, featuring past Cinemalaya films, and Cinemalaya Campus, among others. The film festival will also pay tribute to individuals who have made great contributions to the Philippine film industry, including director Mel Chionglo, former head of the Cinemalaya Competition and Monitoring Committee with the screenings of three of his best films.

Ang kauna-unahang Thirteen Artists Awards (TAA) online press conference na isinagawa Hunyo 30 ay nagbigay-daan upang pormal na ianunsyo ang mga nagwagi sa Cultural Center of the Philippines’ 13 Artists Awardees for 2021.  Ang mga awardee ay sina Allan Balisi, Nice Buenaventura, Gino Bueza, Mars Bugaoan, Rocky Cajigan, Geloy Concepcion, Patrick Cruz, Ian Carlo Jaucian, KoloWn, Czar Kristoff, Lou Lim, Ryan Villamael at Catherine Sarah Young.

Ang selection committee sa taong ito ay kinabibilangan ng mga artist na sina Imelda Cajipe Endaya (13 Artists 1990), Nona Garcia (13 Artists 2003), Nap Jamir II (13 Artists 1974), and Gerry Tan (13 Artists 1988), kasama si Rica Estrada ng CCP Visual Arts and Museum Division. Ang mga juror ay indibiduwal na dumaan sa eighty-eight artist portfolios, na may final online deliberations sa isang grupo.

Matapos ang isang taong pahinga dahil sa pandemya, ang Cinemalaya Institute ay nagbabalik ngayong taon upang ipagpatuloy ang commitment nito na makapagturo, mag-ensayo at tumanggap ng mga pelikulang mula sa mga practitioner sa mga pangunahing aspeto ng paggawa ng pelikula.

Itinatag noong 2015, sinanay ng Institute na ito ang mga magiging Filipino filmmaker upang masiguro ang paglago at pagpapanatili ng Cinemalaya bilang nangungunang independent film festival sa Asia.

Sa training arm ng Cinemalaya Foundation, Inc. (CFI), plano ng Institute na magbukas ng selected courses na sumusunod sa protocols na ipinapataw ng pamahalaan.

Ang ino-offer na training programs virtually ay kinabibilangan ng: SCRIPTWRITING WORKSHOP FOR FILM ng veteran playwright na si Ricky Lee; MASTER WORKSHOP ON CONTINUING NARRATIVES FOR BROADCAST AND WEB-BASED PLATFORMS ng award-winning TV at film director na si Jose Javier Reyes; at PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT ni John Paul Su; at ang ASSISTANT DIRECTOR’S WORKSHOP FOR FILM AND TELEVISION ni Jay Abello.

Ang Artist Training Division ng Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) ay magsasagawa ng kanilang ikaanim na NATIONAL RONDALLA WORKSHOP 2021 na gaganapin sa Hulyo 27-31, mula alas-9:00 ng umaga hanggang alas-6:30 ng gabi.

Nagsimula noong 2014, ang National Rondalla Workshop sa taong ito ay gaganapin online sa unang pagkakataon sa pamamagitan ng Zoom. Layon nito na mailabas pa ang husay at galing ng mga kabataan sa rondalla, lalo na sa pamamagitan ng online set-up. Ang workshop na ito ay bukas sa mga grupo ng rondalla sa buong bansa na tumutugtog na at hindi mga non-beginner. Ang mga Rondalla Ensembles na may mga rondalla instrument kabilang ang banduria, octavina/laud, guitas, at bass ay maaaring lumahok sa workshop.

Ang workshop trainers ay pangungunahan ni Prof. Elaine Juliet Espejo ng Celso Espejo Rondalla at ng UP Rondalla, kasama ang faculty member ng UP College of Music. Ang workshop modules ay kinabibilangan ng sectional rehearsals per rondalla instrument, note reading sessions, at individual rondalla ensemble cliniquing sessions. Ang workshop ay magtatapos sa online recorded performance ay ito ay makikita sa CCP Facebook Page sa Agosto 21, 2021.

Ayala Corporation bagged the Silver Award as Asia’s Best Integrated Report and was a finalist in five other categories at the 6th Asia Sustainability Reporting Awards (ASRA), the most prestigious international awards for corporate reporting.

Due to the pandemic, the event was hosted virtually in Singapore by CSR Works and was attended by a multitude of representatives from Asian companies who practice Sustainability Reporting. Broadcasted live, the ceremony was attended by more than 250 business leaders and sustainability practitioners from 20 Asian countries. Special guests and dignitaries from the academe, embassies, trade associations, and advocacy organizations were also present.

Guests of Honour H.R. Ms. Kara Owen, British High Commissioner to Singapore, and H.E. Mr. Niclas Kvarnström, the Swedish Ambassador in Singapore gave their welcome remarks to formally open the ceremony. Going beyond just announcing the winners, the program included segments where ASRA judges were featured in a string of rapid-fire questions on sustainability reporting.

The independent panel of judges followed a rigorous multi-tier evaluation process that involves three rounds of assessment. This ensures that the winners in every category are the best according to the criteria for judging and comprehensive due diligence that considers the company’s reputation among their stakeholders. For this awarding cycle, the judges reviewed a total of 494 entries from 17 countries for 19 categories. Only 102 companies from 14 countries made it to the finals. The fierce competition produced 39 winners who were awarded with gold, silver, and bronze medals and a Report of the Year award.

Rajesh Chhabara, managing director of CSRWorks International and the founder of ASRA, notably commented the increasing quality of sustainability reports across the region and that each year, choosing the winners are becoming more and more challenging. This gives a positive outlook on sustainability reporting in the region and signifies the growth and maturity of the practitioners in the field.
