Sa halip, inoorganisa ng Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) na isagawa ito sa susunod na taon.
Nakatakda ang 3rd Asian Youth Games sa Nobyembre 2021. Ngunit ngayon ay binabalak itong gawin sa Disyembre 2022.
Wala naman pahayag ang OCA na ililipat ito ng venue, kaya malamang na sa Shantou City sa southern Guangdong, China pa rin gaganapin ang AYG.
Ang kasalukuyang COVID-19 pandemic pa rin ang itinuturong dahilan sa pagkansela sa AYG.”The move is to ensure the safety and health of athletes and all participants,” pahayag ng Shantou department na in-charge sa sports affairs sa Chinese social media.
“In view of the current situation of global COVID-19 pandemic, the Olympic Council of Asia, the Chinese Olympic Committee and Shantou 2021 Asian Youth Games Organising Committee have made the joint decision to reschedule the 3rd Asian Youth Games, which was due to take place in November 2021, to the new dates of 20-28 December 2022.” (ANN ENCARNCION)
