MAAARING maging daan para malugi ang gobyerno ng trilyong piso sa productivity sa hinaharap dahil sa pinahabang pagsasara ng klase sa gitna ng COVID-19 crisis.

“We have an estimate that productivity loss over the next 40 years is going to be around ₱11 trillion pesos for the one year where we had no face-to-face schooling,” ang babala ni National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Chua.

Binigyang diin ni Chua na ang kakulangan sa face-to-face classes ay magsisilbing hadlang sa abilidad ng mga estudyante na matuto na permanenteng makaaapekto sa kanilang buhay.

Nilinaw naman ni Chua kung bakit iba ang projection o pagtataya ng ahensiya mula sa naging pagtataya ng Asian Development Bank na ₱1.9-trillion na pagkalugi na resulta ng “yearlong shutdown” ng mga eskuwelahan.

“There are some assumption differences. For instance, they did not adjust for inflation over the 40 years. And also, they were using a data source. But we have clarified that, and I think they have agreed that the amount would be much bigger than their initial estimate,” ani Chua.

Patuloy namang itinutulak ng NEDA ang pilot face-to-face classes. (CHRISTIAN DALE)
