PINANGANGAMBAHAN na lalong babagsak ang kalidad ng edukasyon sa bansa matapos tamaan nang husto ang pondo ng Department of Education (DepEd) sa ginawang pagbabawas ng gobyerno sa budget ng mga departamento para ilipat sa kampanya laban sa COVID-19.

Ayon kay ACT party-list Rep. France Castro, malaking epekto sa pagsisikap ng DepEd na maiangat pa ang kalidad ng edukasyon sa bansa ang P21.9 Billion na ibinawas sa kanilang pondo ngayong taon.

Bukod sa DepEd ay binawasan din ng P13.9 Billion ang pondo ng Commission on Higher Education (CHED) habang tinapyasan naman ng P7.6 Billion ang budget ng State Universities and Colleges (SUC).

Dahil dito, sinabi ng mambabatas na malaking kawalan ang tinanggal na pondo para mapaigting pa ang kalidad ng edukasyon sa bansa lalo na sa gitna ng pandemya.

“The Department of Education already stated that it needs at least P350 billion to be able to install and ensure safety measures in schools to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 while the Commission on Higher Education is also worried that the Free Higher Education law will also be affected by the budget cuts for the COVID-19 response,” ani Castro.

DOH TINIPID PA RIN

Kinuwestiyon din ni Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Carlos Zarate ang pagtapyas ng gobyerno sa budget ng public services habang hindi ginagalaw ang pondo ng intelligence funds.

“The budget realignment is another misplaced priority. The budget of social and basic services are slashed but that of intelligence and confidential funds remain intact,” ani Zarate.

Ang masakit pa aniya rito, imbes na ibuhos sa Department of Health (DOH) ang pondong ibinawas sa iba’t ibang ahensya ay tinipid pa rin umano ito ng gobyerno dahil P1.9 Billion lamang ang ibibigay dito gayung sila ang nasa gitna ng giyera kontra COVID-19.

“What is more appalling though is that instead of realigning a big chunk of these pooled funds to the Department of Health (DOH) or government hospitals to fight Covid; only P1.9B went to the department, while, the Department of Finance (DOF) gained P35.8 when it is hardly in the frontline in handling the disease,” ayon pa kay Zarate.
