SUSUYURIN ng mga pulis ang mga transport terminal at iba pang pampublikong lugar sa mas pinaigting na pagpapatupad ng smoking ban sa buong bansa.

Sa pakikipag-ugnayan kina Secretary of the Interior and Local Government (SILG) Eduardo Año at Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, inatasan ng Joint

Task Force COVID Shield ang lahat ng police commanders na mahigpit na ipatupad ang smoking ban sa mga Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) terminal at iba pang public places.

Ayon kay Police Lt. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, commander ng JTF COVID Shield, ang kautusan ay base sa inilabas na guidelines ni National Task Force on COVID-19 chairman at Secretary of National Defense Delfin Lorenzana para masawata ang pagkalat ng coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“In this time of pandemic when the coronavirus targets the respiratory system, smoking is really dangerous not only to the smokers but also to non-smokers. Smoking in public places particularly bus, jeepney and tricycle terminals compromises the health safety of both the drivers and the passengers,” ani PLt. Gen. Eleazar.

Paliwanag ng opisyal, base sa mga health expert ang mga naninigarilyo at mga taong nakalalanghap ng secondhand smoke mula sa sigarilyo ay lantad sa coronavirus infection dahil apektado na ang kanilang immune system.

“The act of smoking itself, already compromises the health safety of an individual since contaminated hands or contaminated cigarettes increase the possibility of transmission from fingers to lips, as well as the fact that smokers have to remove face masks and face shields when smoking,’ pahayag pa ni Gen Eleazar.

Bukod dito, nakatatanggap din ng sumbong ang JTF COVID Shield na may mga driver at passengers ang talamak na naninigarilyo sa PUV terminals lalo na sa mga lalawigan.

Ipinag-utos din ni Gen Eleazar sa lahat ng police commanders na regular na bantayan ang mga smoking area sa kanilang Areas of Responsibility (AORs).

Una rito, ipinag-utos na rin ng Manila International Airport Authority ang pansamantalang pagsasara ng smoking areas sa lahat ng terminals ng Ninoy Aquino International Airport dahil sa banta ng coronavirus infection sa mga naninigarilyo.

“There is already an existing Presidential Decree 26 signed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte against smoking in public places. All our police commanders need to do is to ensure that it is strictly implemented in their respective AORs,” paliwanag pa ng heneral.

Ayon pa kay Eleazar, kailangan makipag-ugnayan ang mga police commander sa mga Local Government Unit (LGU) para magamit ang mga barangay tanod at mga city and municipal Public

Order and Safety personnel sa pagpapatupad ng nationwide smoking ban.

Pinaalalahanan din ni Eleazar ang mga police commander na mahigpit na ipatupad ang smoking ban alinsunod sa direktiba ni PNP Chief General Cascolan para sa deployment ng police marshals sa transportation hubs para matiyak ang wastong implementasyon ng quarantine protocols. (JESSE KABEL)
