TINIYAK ng Malakanyang na “on top of the situation” ang Department of Health (DoH) matapos matuklasan ang isang kaso ng monkeypox sa Pilipinas.

“This is not particularly fatal but it is of concern,” ayon Kay Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles sa isang press briefing.

Nauna rito, kinumpirma ng DOH na may unang kaso ng monkeypox sa bansa na nakita sa 31-year-old Filipino na nagbalik-bansa mula sa overseas trip noong nakaraang Hulyo 19.

“The reverse transcription– polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test result conducted Thursday showed that the unnamed patient is positive for monkeypox, ayon kay DOH officer-in-charge (OIC) Undersecretary for Public Health Services Team Beverly Ho.

“The patient is observing strict isolation and monitoring at home,” dagdag na pahayag ni Ho.

Sa kabila ng natuklasang monkeypox sa bansa, tiniyak ni Cruz-Angeles na “DOH is on top of the situation” sabay sabing “So, the primary concern is to get the information out so that people will be aware, but also to be aware that the systems of DOH are in place.”

Pinawi naman ni Cruz-Angeles ang pangamba ng publiko sa monkeypox. Aniya ang monkeypox ay hindi katulad ng coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“First of all, it’s only one case, number one. Number two, as you can see, it does not affect the entire population. Number three, this is not like Covid that can be spread by air very easily and could possibly be fatal,” ayon kay Cruz-Angeles.

Ayon sa World Health Organization, ang monkeypox ay maihahalintulad sa kumalat na sakit noon na smallpox.

Ilan sa mga sintomas nito ay ang lagnat, rashes, at mala-bulutong-tubig na marka sa balat.

Nata-transmit ito sa pamamagitan ng body fluids, pakikipagtalik, at kapag napatakan ang iyong open wound ng tubig mula sa nabuksang sugat ng monkeypox.

Ang oras ng exposure ay nagpapakita sa loob ng 10 araw makaraan ang sintomas.

Samantala, naiulat ang monkeypox virus sa US, Canada, at sa UK at ilang European countries. (CHRISTIAN DALE)
