DAHIL sa natatanging nagawa at kontribusyon upang mapabuti ang buhay ng mga Pilipino, lalo na iyong mga nasa countryside, pinangunahan nina dating Senate President Manny Villar at Sen. Cynthia Villar ang pagbibigay ng parangal sa 16 cooperatives sa buong kapuluan sa idinaos na virtual at face-to-face ceremony noong December 17.

Layunin ng pagkilala ng Villar SIPAG (Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance) sa cooperatives mula sa buong bansa na mahikayat at magsilbing inspirasyon  sa social integration and job creation.

Matutulungan din nitong maiangat ang kondisyon ng buhay ng mga Pilipino at makatulong sa paglago ng ekonomiya.

Tumanggap ang bawat isa sa 15 awardees ng Php250,000 in cash mula sa Villar SIPAG. Isang cooperative din ang ginawaran ng special award at tumanggap ng Php150,000 cash.

Sinabi  ni Sen. Cynthia Villar, director ng Villar SIPAG na sa pamamagitan ng recognition, umaasa siyang maeengganyo ang mga cooperative na ipagpatuloy ang kanilang gawain para mapabuti ang buhay sa kanilang komunidad.

May 247 entries sa taong ito at ang bilang ay na-shortlist sa 58 kung saan 23 ang idineklarang semi-finalists.

Fifteen (15) samahan ang piniling Outstanding partner ng Villar SIPAG Awards on Poverty Reduction para sa taong ito. Isa ang binigyan ng special recognition para sa environmental protection.
Sa 15 outstanding coops, thirteen (13) ang may savings at loans services at two (2) coops ang nagbibigay ng hanapbuhay at oportunidad sa trabaho sa mga kasapi nito.

“The lack of access to financing has long been a hindrance to the development of the country’s agriculture and MSME sectors which is made more pronounced during the time of the pandemic,” ani Villar.

“These cooperatives made farmers, teachers, indigenous people, farm workers and agrarian reform beneficiaries, become financially included by providing a wide range of financial services to them,” dagdag pa niya.

“These coops promote financial literacy by encouraging their members to save money; send or receive remittance, income, and benefits; and make day-to-day payments, secure MSME loans and insurance, with them. The incidence of borrowing in the country has been mostly from the informal sources.”

Binigyan ng Special Award ang Bambuhay, social enterprise mula Mandaluyong City dahil sa income opportunities para sa rural families sa Nueva Ecija sa pamamagitan ng bamboo propagation na ginagawang straw, toothbrush, tumbler.
