RIZAL – Umabot sa 20 rebeldeng New People’s Army (NPA) ang sumuko nitong Sabado, bago sumapit ang kanilang ika-51 anibersaryo.

Nalikom ng mga militar at pulis sa Camp Vicente Lim sa Calamba, Laguna ang 14 armas mula sa sumukong mga rebelde.

Ayon kay Col. Alex Rillera, commander ng 202nd Infantry Brigade, ang mga rebelde na nasa ilalim ng Guerilla Front Cesar, ay nag-o-operate sa mga probinsya ng Quezon, Rizal at Laguna.

Ang mga ito ay isinali sa Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program o E-CLIP ng gobyerno.

Samantala, nanawagan si Maj. Gen. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr., commander ng 2nd Infantry Division sa iba pang mga rebelde na sumuko na.

“Put down your arms, give up your armed struggle and return to mainstream society while you still can because after this contagion, we shall muster all our strength and focus our sights to the liberation of Southern Tagalog from the clutches of communist terrorism by defeating the few remaining NPAs in this part of the country,” ani Burgos.

Mula nang ipatupad ang E-CLIP sa Timog Katagalugan, 509 rebelde na ang sumuko at 108 armas ang nalikom ng gobyerno sa Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal at Quezon o Calabarzon, at Mindoro, Marinduque at Romblon o MIMARO.

Nakapagbahagi naman ng halos P10.478 milyong halaga ng financial assistance sa mga dating rebelde. (CYRILL QUILO)
