PINIGIL ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) officers sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) na makaalis ng bansa kamakailan ang pitong Filipina na hinihinalang mga biktima ng human trafficking, papunta sa United Arab Emirates.

Sa report kay Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, ng BI’s Travel Control and Enforcement Unit (TCEU), pinigil ang mga kababaihan noong Setyembre 17 sa Immigration Departure area ng NAIA Terminal 1 habang pasakay sa Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight patungong Dubai.

Tatlong sa mga ito ay kinuha para magtrabaho bilang caregivers sa UAE, habang apat na iba pa ay na-recruit bilang marketing and sales agents para sa interior design company.

Ayon kay BI-TCEU Chief Ma. Timotea Barizo, ang mga kababaihan na tinangkang umalis ay umasta bilang first-time overseas Filipino workers, subalit pawang mga kinuwestiyunable ang mga dokumento.

“Verification made on the overseas employment certificates (OECs) they presented revealed that some of them are not in the records of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), while the others appear to have been issued to other persons,” ani Barizo.

Idinagdag pa niya, nang suriin ang UAE visa ng mga pasahero lumalabas na ang pagbiyahe papuntang Dubai ay bilang mga turista lamang at hindi para maging manggagawa nasabing sa bansa.

Dahil dito, ang mga kababaihan na hindi ibinunyag ang mga pangalan, ay itu-turn over sa Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) para sa kinakailangang tulong at kaukulang imbestigasyon.

Kaugnay nito, muling nagpapalala si Morente na kung nais magtrabaho sa ibang bansa ay huwag makipag-usap sa hindi rehistradong ahensiya o recruiters para hindi mabiktima ng human traffickers.

“We were told that these intercepted victims all said that they met their handlers and recruiters via social media and that their travel papers were only handed to them a few days before their scheduled flights. They did not know that these fraudulent papers could result in interception by our officers,” dagdag pa ng opisyal. (JOEL O. AMONGO)
