PINANINDIGAN ni Anakalusugan Party-list Rep. Mike Defensor ang kanyang babala na tataas ang buwis sa mga residential, commercial o industrial lot sa Quezon City simula sa Enero 2023.

Ginawa ni Defensor ang pahayag matapos tawagin umano ng Quezon City government sa pamamagitan ng kanilang legal officer na si Orlando Casimiro, na fake news ang pending na land tax increase.

“There is no fake news. I am not a purveyor of falsehood. It is the current leadership of Quezon City that purveys fake news and even uses the media to spread it,” ayon sa mambabatas.

Tinukoy ng mayoralty candidate ng QC na si Defensor, ang City Ordinance (No. SP-2556) na inaprubahan ni Mayor Mayor Joy Belmonte noong siya’y vice mayor at presiding officer ng City Council noong 2016, na magtatakda ng real property value at buwis ng mga real property sa lungsod.

Kinuwestiyon umano ito ng homeowners sa Korte Suprema na naglabas ng temporary restraining order (TRO) na sumuspinde sa nasabing ordinansa hanggang 2020.

Nang bawiin ang TRO, naglabas ng ordinansa ang City Council na suspendehin ang dagdag na buwis sa mga real property sa lungsod hanggang Disyembre 2022.

“That is the basis for my statement that there would be an increase in the land tax and for my appeal for the city government to scrap it permanently in the wake of the still-raging Covid-19 pandemic. Otherwise, I and my vice mayor-partner Councilor Winnie Castelo will do it if the people of Quezon City elect us,” ani Defensor.

Ipinaliwanag nito na pinayagan na ni Belmonte ang pagkolekta ng mas mataas na buwis sa mga lupain ng mga taga-Quezon City noong nakaraang taon.

“Ask city residents and they would attest to this fact,” ayon pa sa mambabatas at sinabing panglilito ang pahayag umano ng administrasyon ni Belmonte sa pamamagitan ni Casimiro, na ang Ordinance No. 2556 ay assessed value lamang at hindi para itaas ang buwis.

“Who are they fooling? If the assessed value of a piece of real property goes up, so does the tax. This has happened already in 2020 in the case of improvements on land. So, it is they who are spreading fake news,” ani Defensor na umapela sa mga residente ng lungsod at maging sa media, na i-fact-check ang nasabing isyu upang malaman kung sino ang nagsisinungaling.

“There was nothing wrong with my statement. So, I don’t know why city hall is seething with anger,” ayon pa sa mambabatas. (BERNARD TAGUINOD)
