PABOR ang dalawang senador na kapwa dating hepe ng Pambansang Pulisya sa desisyon ng gobyerno na huwag nang magpatupad ng ceasefire sa New People’s Army ngayong Christmas season.
Ayon kay Senador Panfilo ‘Ping’ Lacson, dahil isinusulong na ang localized peacetalks, mas makabubuting gawin din ang ceasefire sa local level.
“Since peace talks are now localized, ceasefire with the NPA rebels is better discussed at the local level as well, probably on a case-to-case basis,” saad ni Lacson.
“Rebels who may wish to lay down their arms but wouldn’t know how to go about it could find confidence to do so if a localized ceasefire is in force,” dagdag nito.
Sa panig naman ni Senador Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa, iginit na matagal nang dapat itinigil ng pamahalaan ang pagpapatupad ng ceasefire dahil hindi naman kadalasang sumusunod ang mga rebelde.
“That kind of gov’t attitude towards ceasefire is long overdue. The gov’t has finally awakened from deep slumber characterized by deceitful means employed by the CPP-NPA-NDF,” diin ni dela Rosa. (DANG SAMSON-GARCIA)
