HINILING ni Senador Grace Poe sa Department of Agriculture (DA) na isama ang galunggong sa mga produktong isasailalim sa price freeze saka tinanong ang ahensiya na kilalanin kung anong klaseng kalamidad o kagipitan sa bansa upang magkaroon ng price freeze.

Sa pahayag, sinabi ni Poe na tumaas nang todo ang presyo ng galunggong sa palengke sa nakalipas na ilang araw kaya hindi na makayanan ng ordinaryong consumer.

Inirekomenda ng DA sa Malacañang na magpataw ng price ceiling/freeze sa karne ng baboy at manok, tulad ng kasim at pigi sa halagang P270 kada kilo, liempo sa halagang P300 kada kilo at dressed chicken sa P160 kada kilo. Pero, mas mataas ito sa suggested retail price na itinakda noong nakaraang Nobyembre dahil umabot lamang sa P260 kada kilo ang presyo ng kasim at pigi, at P290 sa liempo at P140 sa manok.

“If we really want to help our people, we should also give attention to galunggong or at the very least implement the SRP of P140 per kilo that even the DA’s own price monitoring showed was already at P240 per kilo last December,” ayon kay Poe.

Nakasaad sa Price Act, maaaring magtakda ang pangulo ng price ceiling sa pangunahing bilihin o prime commodities kung may kalamidad, kagipitan, malawakang illegal price manipulation, kung tumaas nang hindi makatuwirang antas o may pangyayaring nagresulta ng hindi makatuwirang pagtaas ng presyo.

“The price ceilings the DA is seeking is higher than its SRP. Even the DA’s own price monitoring shows that the SRPs were no longer followed in Metro Manila early in December. This time, we are asking the DA to identify and punish those manipulating prices, not just for pork and chicken but also for fish and vegetables, if there was profiteering,” ayon kay Poe.

“The government should act now. Butas na ang bulsa ng mga tao at wala pa ring trabaho ang marami,” giit pa niya.

Sa Price Act, natutukoy ang price ceiling ng isang produkto base sa pangkaraniwang presyo nito sa nakalipas na tatlong buwan, kung may suplay, halaga ng producer kabilang ang labor at transportasyon.

“If the DA has been monitoring prices, why did it allow the situation to reach this point? What caused the ‘calamity’ or ’emergency’? Why is the move to increase importation happening only now?” dagdag ni Poe. (ESTONG REYES)
