UMAPELA si Anakalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor sa gobyerno na payagan ang mga tollway operator na mag-import ng COVID-19 vaccines para sa kanilang toll collectors sa lalong madaling panahon.

Ginawa ni Defensor ang panawagan bilang suporta sa mungkahi ni House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco na iurong ang cashless payments sa mga expressway hanggang sa Marso dahil sa mga aberyang idinulot nito sa mga motorista.

“During the three-month period of postponement, the government should allow the two big multi-billion-peso companies running our expressways to import COVID-19 vaccines for their toll collectors and other frontline personnel,” ani Defensor.

Mula noong Disyembre 1 ay ipinatupad na ang 100% cashless payment sa tollways kaya inobliga ang mga motorista na magpakabit ng radio-frequency identification (RFID).

Sinuportahan ni Defensor ang sistemang ito na ipinatupad ng Department of Transportation (DOTr) at Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) upang hindi mahawa sa COVID-19 ang mga toll collector at iba pang tauhan ng tollway operators.

“Unfortunately for millions of motorists, implementation went awry, causing vehicular congestion even in marked RFID lanes in expressway toll plazas, where entry and exit for vehicles with RFID tags are supposed to be seamless,” ani Defensor.

Naging ugat din ang problemang ito sa tollway operator at local government units (LGUs) tulad ng nangyari sa pagitan ng NLEX at Valenzuela City.

“I am sure these big businesses have foreign connections that they can use to access these vaccines,” ayon pa kay Defensor. (BERNARD TAGUINOD)
