MATAPOS ang pag-amin ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na ‘joke lang’ ang naging pahayag nitong pagsakay sa jetski patungong Spratly Islands para maglagay ng bandila, iginiit ni Senador Panfilo Lacson na panahon na mas maging mapanuri ang mga botante sa pagpili ng susunod na lider ng bansa.

Sinabi ni Lacson na hindi dapat madala ang mga botante sa popularidad ng isang kandidato.

“You know, that’s the problem of our electorate. Madali ma-sway sa mga jokes, sa mga ‘budot,’ ‘Tiktok’. Medyo shallow,” pahayag ni Lacson.

“So there should really be a massive information campaign sa electorate natin. But it will take generations before we achieve that,” dagdag pa nito.

Binanggit pa ng senador ang sistema sa Estados Unidos na idinadaan sa presidential debates sa iba’t ibang isyu ang pagpili ng mga kandidato.

“Dito, ang nagma-matter yung political ads, yung kumakanta sa stage, sumasayaw. I’d say it’s pathetic na ganun yung situation,” diin ni Lacson.

“We should be more discerning than what we are right now…because there’s a lot of disinformation and fake news. And some gullible people tend to believe even the most unbelievable fake news,” dagdag nito.

Aminado naman si Lacson na marami pa ring sumusuporta sa pangulo na ibinoto ng 16 milyong Filipino.

“But because of his statements last night, if I were a political science professor that is a good subject under Politics 101: Write an essay on the topic why “stupid” voters elect the leaders they or they don’t deserve,” diin ni Lacson.

“I’d like to give that test to the students and find out …how they would expound on that statement,” dagdag pa nito. (DANG SAMSON-GARCIA)
