IPINAG-UTOS ng Office of the President (OP) sa Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) na sampahan ng kasong kriminal sa Office of the Ombudsman ang sinibak sa puwestong si National Electrification Administration (NEA) administrator Edgardo Masongsong.

Ito’y may kaugnayan sa diumano’y paggamit ng public funds para sa pulitikal na hangarin.

Nagbigay ng direktiba ang OP sa PACC matapos na matuklasan na si Masongsong “acted in flagrant disregard of rules” nang makailang ulit itong mabigo na tutulan ang patuloy na financial support ng mga electric cooperatives para sa political activities ng Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (Philreca) party-list ng electric cooperatives.

Lumabas kasi sa ulat na pinahintulutan umano ni Masongsong ang mga electric cooperatives na maglabas ng pondo para sa kampanya ng Philreca party-list noong 2019 elections.
Ang kautusan ay naakapaloob sa 14-page decision ng OP na ipinalabas noong Agosto 20.

“Public officials and employees are under obligation to perform the duties of office honestly, faithfully, and to the best of their ability. Respondent Masongsong failed to live up to this standard,” ayon sa Pangulo sabay sabing “The PACC is hereby directed to refer the criminal aspect of the instant case to the Office of the Ombudsman for the filing of appropriate criminal charges against respondent Edgardo R. Masongsong.”
