NANINIWALA si Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon na dapat pang palawakin ang kapangyarihan ng Department of Justice (DOJ) sa mga attached agencies nito.

Sinabi ni Drilon na dapat magkaroon nang direktang kontrol at superbisyon ang DOJ sa Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) gayundin sa iba pang ahensya upang masawata ang katiwalian at iba pang iligal na aktibidad sa ahensya.

Dapat anyang amyendahan ang Republic Act 10575 o The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Act of 2013 dahil masyadong naging malakas ang kapangyarihan ng mga opisyal nito na nagresulta pa sa katiwalian.

“It is time to give more teeth to the Department of Justice. There are a number of critical agencies over which the department has limited to zero control,” saad ni Drilon.

Sa ilalim ng batas, limitado lamang sa administrartive supervision ang kontrol ng DOJ sa BuCor.

“The justice secretary is left in the dark because he has no direct control and supervision of the bureau,” diin ng senador.

“This is one of the loopholes that we should look into. The corrupt officials in the BuCor took advantage of the law that gave too much power to the bureau to the extent that there is no more check and balance,” giit pa nito.
