SA halip na anim na buwan, nais ni Anakalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor na suspendehin ang excise tax sa mga produktong petrolyo sa loob ng tatlong taon.

Ayon sa mambabatas, hindi sapat ang anim na buwang suspensyon para makabangon ang mga consumer na labis naapektuhan ng pandemya.

“We are counting on consumer spending to contribute in a big way to the country’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 crisis in the years ahead. We want that spending to be energized by a lengthened suspension of the collection of the increase in fuel excise taxes,” ani Defensor.

Sa House Bill (HB) 10411, nais ng mambabatas na lahat ng excise tax sa mga oil product na nakapaloob sa Section 43 ng Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law ay suspendihin sa loob ng 3 taon.

“We want the government to sacrifice the increase in fuel excise taxes so that the consumers will get to keep billions of pesos in their pockets for their own spending,” ani Defensor.

“The government can always resort to more borrowing to sustain its own spending, but ordinary consumers cannot do the same,” dagdag pa niya.

Sa ngayon ay umaabot na sa P10 ang nakokolektang excise tax sa bawat litro ng gasoline, P6 sa diesel at P5 sa kerosene.

Sa pagtaya ng Department of Finance (DOF), P131.4 billion ang mawawala kapag sinuspinde ang excise tax sa mga produktong petrolyo.

Gayunpaman, nagbabala si Defensor na kapag hindi sinuspinde ang excise tax ay lalong mahihirapang makabangon ang mga tao dahil pataas nang pataas ang presyo ng langis.
