HINDI pinalampas ni Las Piñas City Rep. Mark Anthony Santos ang ginawa ni Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III na tila pagdepensa sa mag-inang dating Sen. Cynthia at Sen. Mark Villar, kahit hindi pa tapos ang imbestigasyon sa multi-bilyong flood control projects scandal.

“Senator Sotto should be more careful with his pronouncements. His remarks could be seen as prejudging the outcome of the investigation or worse, siding with the Villars to protect political alliances. Better to keep your opinion to yourself and let the evidence speak for itself,” matapang na pahayag ni Santos.

Isa si Mark Villar sa mga ipinatawag ng Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) matapos umanong madiskubre ang mga ghost projects noong siya pa ang kalihim ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Dagdag pa rito, lumutang din ang pahayag ni Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla na posibleng pinoprotektahan umano ng mag-asawang kontratista na sina Pacifico at Sarah Discaya ang pamilya Villar — bukod pa kay Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go.

Ngunit sa isang panayam sa radyo, mabilis namang dinepensahan ni Sotto ang mga Villar.

“Hindi ako naniniwala si Cynthia Villar mai-involve doon… Kawawa naman at napapag-initan,” sabi ng Senate President — bagay na ikinainit ng ulo ni Santos, na tumalo kay dating Sen. Villar sa nakaraang halalan sa Las Piñas.

“It’s not the role of the Senate President to clear anyone through the media. His job is to ensure that truth and accountability prevail. If he truly believes in fairness, he should support the investigation instead of casting doubt on it,” dagdag pa ni Santos.

Kinuwestiyon din ng kongresista ang timing ng pagdepensa ni Sotto, lalo’t may umiikot na tsismis na posibleng palitan ito bilang Senate President pagbalik ng sesyon sa Nobyembre 10.

Ang mga anak ni Cynthia — sina Sen. Mark at Sen. Camille Villar ay kapwa kabilang sa majority bloc na sumuporta sa pag-upo ni Sotto matapos mapatalsik si dating Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero.

“This is not about politics—it’s about accountability. If there’s nothing to hide, then there’s nothing to fear. But no one, not even the most powerful political families, should be above scrutiny,” giit ni Santos, sabay banat na “hindi kailangang ipagtanggol ni Sotto ang mga Villar kung talagang malinis sila.”
