MAKARAANG lumahok sa Globe Plastic Xchange Program noong nakaraang taon, pitong komunidad sa Metro Manila ang pinagkalooban ng ecobricks na maaari na nila ngayong magamit para sa iba’t ibang construction projects.

Ang nasabing mga komunidad ay kinabibilangan ng Barangay Magallanes sa Makati, Andres Bonifacio Integrated School sa Mandaluyong, Barangay 455 sa Manila, Barangays Palatiw at San Antonio sa Pasig, at Barangays Signal Village at Upper Bicutan sa Taguig.

“We are glad to be part of Globe’s Plastic Xchange Program. Not only did it help us reduce our single plastic waste but now we have ecobricks which we can use to construct  improvements  for our urban gardening project,” wika ni Brgy. Signal Village Captain Michelle Odevillas.

Sinabi naman ni Alexander Penolio, brgy. captain ng Upper Bicutan, na: “In our own little way, we can all help keep our surroundings clean. We believe small steps and actions matter, and together we can start the change and save mother earth from plastic and pollution.” Ang ecobricks ay gagamitin sa pagtatayo ng community gardens at benches, isang waste segregation facility, at creek fence, gayundin sa pag-rehabilitate ng day care centers.

“Globe continues to look at new ways, such as ecobricks, to help address our country’s plastic waste problem. We started this campaign against single-use plastic with our employees and partners, and now, we are proud to see that our customers and other stakeholders are actively participating in this advocacy,” ani Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability Officer and SVP for Corporate Communications.

Sa Plastic Xchange Program, ang Globe ay nakakolekta ng 231,419 piraso ng single use plastic waste na ginawang 24,500 ecobricks ng Green Antz Builders, Inc., isang Bulacan-based social enterprise na dinevelop ang ecobricks bilang isang green at more cost-effective alternative sa regular hollow blocks.

Ang ecobricks ay ginamitan ng plastic laminates na siniksik pamamagitan ng  proprietary process. Ang bawat ecobrick ay naglalaman ng 2.5 kilos ng plastic.

Ang Plastic Xchange Program ay bahagi ng WasSUP (‘Wag sa single-use plastic) advocacy ng Globe na tumutugon sa epekto ng plastics sa kapaligiran.
