PARA iparating ang mensahe na binabantayan ng Armed Forces of the Philippine ang maritime territory ng Pilipinas sa hilagang bahagi ng bansa, nag-establisa ng dalawang sovereign markers sa Mabaag at Barit Islands sa Aparri, Cagayan ang AFP-Northern Luzon Commando.

Nabatid na pinaigting ng NOLCOM ang isinasagawang monitoring sa mga dagat na kanilang nasasakupan at ang dalawang bagong installed sovereign markers ay karagdagan lamang sa 11 sovereign markers na inilagay nila sa 11 uninhabited islands sa area ng hilagang bahagi ng Cagayan province, malapit sa Babuyan Channel noong nakalipas na taon.

Gaya ng ibang markers, inilagay ang markers sa prominent areas ng dalawang pulo na kitang-kita ng sea vessel na naglalayag sa hilagang bahagi ng Pilipinas.

Ayon kay Lieutenant General Arnulfo Marcelo B. Burgos Jr., commander ng Northern Luzon Command at kasalukuyang Area Task Force-North commander, “The establishment of these sovereign markers is our proactive way of asserting our sovereignty in the northern maritime territories”.

“We give utmost importance to our country’s northern maritime territory, as we treat these maritime areas as a significant part of our country. It is a key source of livelihood due to its abundant marine resources, and a strategic trading route to boost our economy. Thus, it must be secured, and our sovereignty must be asserted in these areas,” pagdidiin pa ni Lt. Gen. Burgos.

“Ang mga islang ito at territorial waters sa paligid nito ay bahagi ng teritoryo ng Pilipinas. Makakatulong sa atin ang mga markers upang matiyak na igagalang ang ating soberanya sa mga lugar na ito,” ani Commodore Caesar Bernard N. Valencia, commander ng Naval Forces Northern Luzon.

Nabatid na mga tauhan ng Naval Forces Northern Luzon ang responsable sa pagtatayo ng dalawang sovereign markers. Layunin din umano nito na palakasin ang mensahe hinggil sa pag-angkin sa mga nasabing maritime areas.

“Rest assured that we will remain proactive and vigilant in ensuring the security of our people, as we safeguard our sovereignty and preserve the integrity of our national territory in this part of our country,” dagdag pa ni Lt. Gen. Burgos. (JESSE KABEL)
