ISANG kembot na lang ng Boston Celtics talsik ang Brooklyn Nets sa NBA playoffs.

Nitong Sabado ng gabi sa New York, (Linggo sa Manila), umiskor si Jayson Tatum ng 39 puntos para pangunahan ang Celtics sa 109-103 win laban sa Nets tungo sa 3-0 lead ng kanilang NBA Eastern Conference first-round series.

Sa kasaysayan ng NBA, wala pang team ang nakabalikwas mula sa 3-0 deficit at magwagi sa best-of-seven series. Kaya’t inaasahang tatapusin ng Celtics ang laban sa Nets’ home sa Lunes (Martes sa Manila).

Sa Game 3, muling nakontrol ng depensa ng Celtics si Brooklyn’s ­scoring star Kevin Durant, umiskor ng 16 puntos.

Nakakuha si Durant ng eight rebounds at eight assists, pero may 11 shot attempts lang.

Si Bruce Brown ang top scorer sa Nets, 26 points, habang ang isa pang superstar ng Brooklyn na si Kyrie Irving, mayroon lamang 16 points sanhi ng foul trouble.

“We know what he’s capable of, everybody does,” komento ni Tatum patungkol kay Durant. “Someone like him, you can’t let it be easy.”
Lamang sa halos kabuuan ng laro ang Celtics, bago naibaba ng Nets sa three points ang deficit sa third quarter.

Rumesponde ang Boston ng two baskets mula kay Marcus Smart at ang steal at dunk ni Jaylen Brown tungo sa 81-72 lead papasok sa fourth.

Si Jaylen Brown ay may 23 points para sa Celtics, hinawakan ang 15-point lead sa fourth quarter bago muling dumikit ang Nets sa limang puntos sa huling 22 seconds.

Nag-free throw si Tatum, kasunod nito nakaagaw at nag-dunk para tapusin ang laro.

“I think it just shows the growth of our team,” wika ni Tatum. “Early in the season, we gave up big leads all the time. And we figured it out. You’re never going to be perfect, it’s all about how you respond. We kept responding.”

JAZZ-MAVS 2-2 NA

ISANG slam dunk ni Rudy Gobert sa huling 11 ­seconds ang nagkaloob sa Utah Jazz ng 100-99 win kontra Dallas sa gabi ng pagbabalik sa Mavericks ni Luka Doncic, sa Game 4 sa Vivint Arena, Salt Lake City.

Sa pagbabalik mula sa injury, umiskor ang Slovenian star guard, absent mula noong Abril 10 sanhi ng left calf strain, umiskor siya ng 30 points buhat sa 11-of-21 shooting, kasama ang 10 rebounds, ngunit ang kanyang late-game heroics ay hindi sapat para isalba ang Mavericks.

Bumato si Doncic ng jumper at nagdagdag ng 3-pointer sa natitirang 39 seconds tungo sa 99-95 lead ng Mavericks.

Sumagot si Utah’s Donovan Mitchell ng 3-point play at matapos magmintis ni Dwight Powell sa dalawang free throws para sa Dallas, dumadagundong na slam dunk ang isinalaksak ni Gobert, para tapusin ang laro.

May huling posesyon ang Dallas, pero pinutakti ng Utah defenders si Doncic, napilitang ipasa kay Spencer Dinwiddie pero kapos ang final shot nito.

“We tried to get it out of Luka’s hands, tried to make him pass,”paliwanag ni Gobert sa final play. “We did a great job of containing him and not letting him get the shot.”

Lahad naman ni Dallas coach Jason Kidd: “We had the opportunity. We just let it slip away. Spencer has made that shot before. We got what we wanted. It just didn’t go down for us.”

Nanguna si Jordan Clarkson sa Utah, 25 points off the bench, habang nagdagdag si Mitchell ng 23.

Tabla sa 2-2 ang Utah at Dallas sa kanilang best-of-seven first round series, at magpapatuloy sa Lunes sa Dallas at sa Utah naman sa Huwebes.

“We have an opportunity and we’re going to make the most of it,” dagdag ni Gobert, nagtala ng 17 points at game-high 15 rebounds. “We believe in each other. We have to keep going. Intensity. We have to leave it out there, communicate and make them earn everything. We came up with the win because we made them take tough shots and we earned it.”

Kuntento rin si Kidd sa kontribusyon ni Doncic sa 34 minutong laro.

“He did great,” ani Kidd. “He did an incredible job for us. He put us in position to win a game on the road.”
