UMAPELA ang isa sa mga co-author ng Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF) sa publiko na suportahan at bigyan ng pagkakataon ang investment plan na ito ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Ayon kay Camarines Sur Rep. LRay Villafuerte, mismong ang Pangulo ang may idea sa MIF para maisakatuparan ang pangako nito sa sambayanang Pilipino noong panahon ng kampanya na iangat ang buhay ng bawat isa sa pamamagitan ng pagpapatayo ng mahahalagang imprastraktura.

“The President has said that it was his idea regarding the MIF, and that our people should give it a try and let the Congress come up with a bill acceptable to the people and with the proper safeguards,” ayon sa mambabatas.

Noong Disyembre 15, ay tuluyang pinagtibay ng Kamara ang House Bill (HB) 6608 na magtatatag sa MIF sa botong 279 pabor at 6 ang kontra matapos sertipikahan ito ng Pangulo bilang urgent bill.

Gayunman, patuloy itong tinututulan ng publiko tao lalo na’t pera pa rin ng taumbayan ang gagamitin kahit manggaling pa ito sa Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Land Bank of the Philippines at Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP).

Kasama sa panggagalingan ng pondo ang kita sa Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) matapos tanggalin ang Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) at Social Security Service (SSS).

Sinabi ni Villafuerte na naglagay na ng mga safeguard ang Kongreso tulad ng pagpapakulong sa mga opisyales ng itatatag na MIF Corporation ng mula 6 hanggang 20 taon at multang P10,000 hanggang P1 milyon kapag nagkaroon ng aberya sa investment na papasukin ng mga ito.

“I think we should give it (MIF) a try. When the President said we should give it a try, we are all up for it. There’s no harm in trying as long as the proper safeguards are there. At the end of the day, it’s up to the Congress to really come out with a good measure,” ayon pa kay Villafuerte. (BERNARD TAGUINOD)
