MAGIGING regular na ang trabaho ng libu-libong contractual workers sa Quezon City Hall kapag nanalo si mayoralty candidate at Anakalusugan Party-list Rep. Mike Defensor.
“The Quezon City government’s long-time contractual workers deserve to be regularized so that they can enjoy security of tenure and receive allowances as well as bonuses, including the 13th month pay,” ayon sa mambabatas.
Sa kasalukuyan ay umabot sa 13,376 ang contractual workers sa city government kung saan karamihan sa mga ito ay matagal nang nagtatrabaho subalit sa hindi maipaliwanag na dahilan, hindi nare-regular ang mga ito.
Mabatid na hindi bababa sa 10 taon nang nagtatrabaho ang karamihan sa mga ito subalit ayaw pa ring i-regular ng kasalukuyang mayor ng lungsod na si Joy Belmonte.
“We are absolutely committed to regularizing them. It would be grossly unfair to continue to deprive them of the benefits of permanent employment,” ayon sa mambabatas.
Hindi aniya makatarungan na mananatiling contractual ang mga empleyadong ito dahil hindi matatawaran ang kanilang kontribusyon sa pagtakbo ng lokal na pamahalaan.
“In fact, our sense is, the Quezon City government has been generating huge savings every year partly at the expense of long-time contractual employees who should have been regularized far in the past,” dagdag pa ni Defensor.
Si Defensor ang pambato nina presidential aspirant at dating Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., at vice presidential candidate at Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, sa mayoralty race sa Quezon.
Bukod sa mga nagtatrabaho sa City Hall ay marami rin umanong day care teachers ang nananatiling contractual workers gayung may pondo naman aniya ang local government para gawing permanente ang mga ito upang maibigay ang lahat ng benepisyo na nararapat sa mga ito.
“Our day care teachers serve as second parents. They are indispensable to the early development of our children,” ani Defensor, vice chairman ng House Committee on Welfare of Children. (BERNARD TAGUINOD)
