NAKATAKDANG mag-deploy ng 800 tourist police officers ang Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) sa major tourism spots sa bansa sa susunod na buwan ng Abril.
Ayon kay Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, inaprubahan ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang planong deployment ng tourist police officers sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa Department of Tourism.
“The initiative aims to increase police visibility in high-traffic tourist areas, deter criminal activity, and ensure faster emergency response while creating a safe and welcoming environment for both visitors and local businesses,” sabi pa ni SILG Remulla.
Ayon sa kalihim, ang tourist police officers ay ipupwesto sa Bonifacio Global City, Poblacion sa Makati, Boracay, Siargao, Cebu, Bohol, at Puerto Princesa sa Palawan.
Magbibigay naman ang Philippine National Police ng mga bagong motorcycle unit na gagamitin ng itinalagang tourist police.
Kaakibat ng kanilang responsibilidad ang pangangalaga at pagsusulong ng ligtas na turismo sa bansa at tutulong din ang mga pulis sa promosyon ng Central Emergency Hotline 911 para sa mas mabilis na emergency response.
Ani Remulla, bibigyan ang mga turista ng 911 calling card pagdating sa Pilipinas.
“When you improve tourism, it’s the middle class that benefits. They contribute the most and they get the very least benefit. We have to strengthen the middle class and make the country better,” saad sa pahayag ni Remulla.
