IGINIIT ni Senador Grace Poe na sa halos P10 bilyong pondo ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) at Department of Education, maaari itong magtayo ng sariling food pantries para sa milyong kabataan.

Sinabi ni Poe na darami ang benepisyaryo ng child feeding programs ng dalawang ahensya kung gagayahin nila ang tagumpay ng mga community pantry at makikipagtulungan sa non-government organizations.

“The funds can be leveraged to extend the reach of the feeding programs,” saad ni Poe.

“The community pantry experience shows that there is tremendous goodwill among our people just waiting to be tapped for a great cause, and addressing child hunger is definitely one,” dagdag ng senador.

Ipinaliwanag ni Poe na sa pakikipagtulungan sa church groups, civil society, business associations at local governments, mababawasan ang gawain ng mga guro at non-teaching personnel, magkakaroon ng mga volunteer at transparency sa paggamit ng pondo.

Sa ilalim ng 2021 national budget, ang DSWD ay may P3.83 bilyon para sa Supplemental Feeding Program para sa dalawang milyong day care students at early child care community facilities.

Ang DepEd naman ay may P6 billion para sa School-Based Feeding Program, na target maserbisyuhan ang 1,775,349 batang may nutritional deficiencies.

Iginiit ni Poe na ang suspensyon ng in-school learning sa panahon ng pandemya ay naging hadlang sa implementasyon ng programa.

Subalit patuloy naman ang pagsisikap ng DepEd at DSWD para maibahagi pa rin ang pagkain sa mga benepisyaryo.

“If it takes a village to raise a child, the same village would act as one in protecting its most vulnerable during trying times,” diin ni Poe.

Nanindigan si Poe na hindi dapat maputol ang feeding programs dahil ang pagkagutom ay lethal side effect ng pandemya. (DANG SAMSON-GARCIA)
