AMINADO si Iloilo Rep Julienne Baronda na dumami ang illegal connections at naging talamak ang pagnanakaw ng kuryente sa Iloilo City dahil na rin sa kabiguan na habulin at panagutin ang mga nasa likod ng “organized business” na ito kaya naman kaisa ito ng lokal na pamahalaan na wakasan na ang nagaganap na electricity pilferage.

Ang pahayag ni Baronda ay bilang reaksyon sa inilunsad na crackdown ni Iloilo City Mayor Jerrry Treñas laban sa organized group na nasa likod ng talamak na pagnanakaw ng kuryente matapos na rin makumpirma ng More Electric and Power Corp. na nasa 30,000 ang illegal connections sa lalawigan.

Ang paglobo ng bilang ng mga gumagamit ng electric jumpers ang sanhi ng pagtaas ng systems loss na umabot na sa 9.3 percent, ang halaga ng nakaw na kuryente na ito ay ipinapasa din ra lehitimong consumers kaya tumataas ang kanilang binabayarang singil sa kuryente.

“Electricity pilferage has become a practice because the violators have gotten away with their crime but this should be put to a stop. The electricity pilfered or stolen are being charged to the others who religiously pay their dues.

This is not fair,” pahayag ni Baronda.

Pinapurihan naman ni Baronda ang More Power sa inisyatibo nito na pagaanin ang requirements sa pag-a-apply ng electic meter, sa ganitong paraan umano ay mas marami ang mahihikayat na magpakabit na ng kanilang sariling kuntador ng kuryente na siya ring nakikitang solusyon sa paggamit ng jumper.

“I urge the Ilonggos to stop this electricity pilferage. I understand the new power distributor has made it easier for consumers to apply for their own meters, so this should dissuade them from resorting to illegal connections just to have power. Let us protect our interest. Let us not allow ourselves to pay for the electricity consumed by those who steal power through the systems loss. Let us report those who steal electricity instead of condoning the pilferers,” dagdag pa ni Baronda.

Sinabi ni MORE Power president Roel Castro na sa naging kasunduan nila sa City Government sa hangarin na rin na masolusyunan ang illegal connections ay mas pinadali ang requirements sa pagpapakabit ng kuntador ng kuryente, ilan umano sa dapat lang na isumite ay ang Certificate of Residency, Government ID, Oath of Undertaking of Connection and Meter at Electrical Safety Inspection Reports.

Ibinaba rin ng More Power sa P9 ang singil kada kilowatt/hour sa mga informal settler para mahikayat na magkaroon na sila ng sariling kuntador sa halip na magbayad sa mga illegal connection na naniningil sa kanila ng P20 kada kilowatt hour.

“Ilonggos had to pay for the electricity pilfered from such illegal connection for decades. Illegal connections do not just burden legitimate consumers who pay for stolen electricity but it also takes toll on the system which results in overloading,” paliwanag ni Castro.

Tukoy na umano ng More Power ang mga nasa likod ng organized business na pagnanakaw ng kuryente sa Iloilo City at sa tulong ng lokal na pamahalaan sa inilusad nitong crackdown ay target nila ngayong 2020 na mapababa sa kalahati ang bilang ng mga gumagamit ng jumper.
