UMABOT sa halagang P67,306,400 ang 9,898 grams ng umano’y shabu sa isang parcel, na nasabat ng mga tauhan ng Bureau of Customs – Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA), sa tulong ng Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), at NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG), sa Paircargo Warehouse, Pasay City.
Ang shipment na idineklara bilang “bearings” na nagmula sa Mozambique, Southeastern Africa via Hong Kong sa pamamagitan ng Ethiopian Airlines flight number ET644, ay dumating sa bansa noong Disyembre 2, 2023.
Ang nasabing parcel ay isinailalim sa mahigpit na profiling, X-ray screening, at physical examination na naging daan ng pagkakadiskubre sa itinagong kontrabando.
Kasabay nito, naaresto rin ng composite team ang consignee na kumukuha sa parcel mula sa kanyang partner na nakilala sa online.
“The public is warned to be more aware of the variations of the love scam, where smugglers of illegal drugs use their Filipino partners to serve as couriers. Our laws are very clear that whoever is identified as the owner of the shipment remains under the pain of imprisonment if found to be in violation of the rules,” ani Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio. Nakatakdang kasuhan ang suspek ng paglabag sa Republic Act (RA) 9165 o Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, at RA 10863 o Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
“I commend the Port, under the leadership of District Collector Yasmin O. Mapa, and our partner agencies in their unwavering commitment to put an end to the proliferation of dangerous drugs in the country,” dagdag pa ng commissioner.
Ang BOC ay naninindigan, sa tulong ni President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., sa anti-illegal drug campaign, at nangunguna sa pagtitiyak ng proteksyon sa hangganan ng bansa laban sa pagpasok ng illegal drugs at ipinagbabawal na mga kalakal.
