PINALAKAS ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) ang kanilang partnership sa Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPOST) sa pamamagitan ng pagpirma ng isang Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) kamakailan.

Layunin ng inisyatibang ito na paigtingin ang kanilang mga pagsisikap upang pahusayin ang ‘trade facilitation programs, focusing on improving the speed, security, and quality of customs clearance for postal items.’

Pinangunahan nina BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio at PHLPOST Postmaster General Luis Carlos, kasama sina Assistant Secretary for Digital Philippines at E-Commerce Lead ng Department of Trade and Industry, Mary Jean T. Pacheco, at iba pang pangunahing opisyales mula sa BOC at PHLPOST, ang ceremonial signing noong Oktubre 18, 2023, sa Parañaque City, kasabay ng Port of NAIA’s anniversary celebration.

Ang MOA signing ay nagsasaad ng sama-samang pangako ng BOC at PHLPOST na mapahusay ang trade facilitation programs para sa importers at stakeholders.

Ang kasunduang ito ay para sa ‘expedite clearance, enhance security measures, improve compliance’ sa international customs at postal standards, at pag-streamline ng proseso para sa mas maayos na trade operations.

Ang kasunduan ay tumutukoy sa relasyon at naglalarawan ng mga function ng PHLPOST at BOC sa ‘handling, inspecting, examining, appraising, and collecting customs duties, taxes, and other import charges, covering the entire spectrum of processes from receipt and processing to the disposal of postal items.’

Bukod dito, ang MOA ay tumutukoy sa pangako ng BOC at PHLPOST na labanan ang mga paglabag sa mga batas ng customs, hadlangan ang transport ng illicit materials, drugs, counterfeit goods, contraband, at money laundering activities na banta sa economic, social, fiscal, and security interests ng bansa.
