NASABAT ng mga tauhan ng Bureau of Customs ang walong shipping container na naglalaman ng buhay na millipedes sa isang warehouse sa Pasay City.

Ang containers ay patungo s\sa United Kingdom noong Nobyembre 19, na idineklarang “assorted consumer goods,” katulad ng powdered juice, face masks, instant noodles, delicacies, photo frames, at iba pa.

Subalit sa X-ray screening, nakita ang iregularidad sa kargamento dahilan para isailalim pa ito sa mas malalim na pagsusuri.

Dito na nga tumambad ang mga buhay na millipedes na agad na ipinag-utos na i-turnover sa Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) para sa tamang disposisyon.

Ayon sa BOC, ang insidente ay labag sa Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, partikular na ang misdeclaration at unlawful exportation.

“Ensure that our outbound cargo facilities are not exploited for illicit activities involving wildlife or other regulated commodities, mas maghihipit pa ang Aduana sa mga entry at exit points ng bansa,” ayon kay BOC District Collector Atty. Yasmin Mapa.

Ayon kay BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno, “The agency is committed to enforcing customs laws and preventing the unauthorized transport of regulated or prohibited items.”
