ISINUSULONG ni Senador Leila De Lima ang pagpapataw ng mas mabigat na parusa sa mga mapatutunayang sangkot sa pamemeke ng birth at death certificates partikular ang mga sangkot sa babies-for-sale.

Sa inihaing Senate Bill 1305 ni De Lima, nais nitong paamiyendahan ang Section 9 ng Presidential Decree 561 o ang 45-taon nang Civil Registration Law kung saan mula sa kasalukuyang P500.00 hanggang P1,000 na multa ay nais nitong gawing P40,000 hanggang P1.2M ang multa.

“In 2017, the 17th Congress enacted Republic Act. No. 10951, which adjusted for inflation various penalties and fines imposed under the Revised Penal Code (RPC) to ensure that the level of punishment will remain commensurate to the crimes,” sabi nito.

Paliwanag pa ni De Lima, chairman ng Senate Committee on Social Justice, Welfare and Rural Development, ang birth at death certificates ay mahalagang dokumento hindi lang para sa recording o proper documentation kung hindi magagamit din ito sa korte at sa iba pang ahensya ng pamahalaan. NOEL ABUEL
