TINATAYANG umabot sa P58.31 milyong halaga ng imported shabu shipment mula Nigeria ang nasabat sa inter-agency operation sa pangunguna ng Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency at Bureau of Customs sa Manila.

Ayon kina BOC Commissioner Jogi Ruiz at PDEA Director General Wilkins Villanueva, sinabat ng kanilang mga tauhan ang mga kontrabando na naglalaman ng methamphetamine hydrochloride, o  shabu, sa  San Andres, Manila.

Nasa 8.575 kilos ng shabu na itinago sa mga pakete ng imported spices, ang nakumpiska ng pinagsanib na puwersa ng Bureau of Customs-Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) at NAIA-Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA IADITG).

Nabatid na ang nasabing shipment ay inangkat mula Nigeria at idineklarang “foodstuff”. Subalit nang busisiin ang covering import documents at beripikahin ito ay lumitaw na ang mga pakete ay illegally imported dahil ipinasok ang mga ito nang walang kaukulang import permits mula sa DA-BPI.

“Upon 100% physical examination, the operatives of the joint inter-agency units found that the package also contained 8.575 kilos of white crystalline substance inside white plastic bowl concealed in the packages of various dried spices, which were later confirmed through PDEA Field Test as shabu, pahayag pa nina Ruiz at Villanueva. (JESSE KABEL)
