MALAKI ang epekto ng mga fake news at disinformation sa pagbaba ng intellectual quotient (IQ) ng tao lalo na ang mga kabataan.

Reaksyon ito ng dating guro at kinatawan ng ACT party-list na si Rep. France Castro kaugnay sa ulat ng Britain-based Reuters Institute na hindi na sa mainstream media kumukuha ng impormasyon ang mga tao kundi sa TikTok influencers at celebrities.

“This shift has led to a rise in the dissemination of fake news and disinformation, which, in turn, contributes to the erosion of critical thinking and the lowering of the intellectual quotient (IQ) of the public,” ani Castro.

Dahil dito, kailangang makagawa aniya ng aksyon ang gobyerno laban sa mga fake news na kumakalat sa mga social media platform na malaking banta rin aniya sa lipunan bukod sa pinabobobo ang mga tao.

“The proliferation of fake news and disinformation is a serious threat to our society. It is imperative that we promote media literacy and critical thinking skills among our youth to combat the spread of false information and ensure a well-informed citizenry,” dagdag pa ni Castro.

Labis ding ikinabahala ng mambabatas ang report na mananatiling madilim ang landas ng mga mamamahayag sa Pilipinas dahil sa patuloy na pag-atake sa mga lehitimong miyembro ng media.

Sa report din ng Reuters Institute, hindi maganda ang kalagayan ng mga mamamahayag sa Pilipinas kahit wala na sa poder si dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.

Inayunan ito ni Castro dahil hanggang ngayon ay patuloy na hina-harass, nirered-tag ang mga mamamahayag sa bansa na ang ilan ay biktima pa ng extrajudicial killings.

“The media plays a vital role in our democracy. We must stand together to defend their rights and work towards a media landscape that is free, impartial, and accountable,” apela ng mambabatas sa gobyerno.
