SINUPORTAHAN ni Senador Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go ang pagsasabatas ng Senate Bills 1207, 1100, at 1332 na naglalayong ilipat sa pamamahala ng Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) ang lahat ng sub-provincial at provincial jails.

“I fully support the initiative to transfer jurisdiction over all sub-provincial and provincial jails to the BJMP,” sabi ni Go sa pagdinig ng Senate committee on public order na pinamumunuan ni Senator Ronald dela Rosa.

“Through this initiative, management of our correctional facilities will be more efficient and the welfare of our prisoners will be better protected,” dagdag niya.

Ayon sa senador, sa pamamagitan ng “unified standard” na pamamahala sa ating correctional facilities ay matitiyak ang maayos na management sa mga ito.

“Under our current laws, local jails are currently under the control of two different authorities: city, municipal, and district jails are under the BJMP, while provincial and sub-provincial jails are supervised by the provincial government,” ani Go.

Sinabi ng senador na kung maibibigay sa BJMP ang hurisdiksyon sa mga nabanggit na kulungan ay magiging madali ang pagtatag at pagpapatupad ng integrated approach sa jail management.

Binanggit ni Go ang datos na sa 61 provincial jails sa bansa, may kabuuang bilanggo na 33,000.

At para magtagumpay ang nasabing inisyatiba, kinakailangang kumuha at magsanay ang BJMP ng tinatayang 14,500 karagdagang personnel.

Ang mga nasabing panukala na inakda nina Senators Ronald dela Rosa, Ramon Revilla at Juan Miguel Zubiri, ay layong gawing uniform at standard ang mga polisiya at patakaran ipatutupad sa local jails.

Maging si Interior Secretary Eduardo M. Año ay suportado ang inisyatiba sa pagsasabing “It’s just logical that all provincial jails in the country be integrated under BJMP as this will prompt a more standard implementation of policies for our jails.” (ESTONG REYES)
