SA gitna ng lingguhang pagtaas ng presyo ng mga produktong petrolyo sa merkado, napagdiskitahan ng isang militanteng kongresista si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na siya umanong may kasalanan sa kinasasadlakang problema ng mga motorista.

Giit ni House deputy minority leader Carlos Zarate ng grupong Bayan Muna, walang ibang dapat sisihin sa patuloy na pagtaas ng presyo ng langis sa bansa kundi ang administrasyon Duterte dahil sa patuloy na nagbibingi-bingihan nito sa panaghoy at panawagang i-regulate ang lokal na industriya ng langis.

Mula sa unang araw ng Enero, limang ulit nang nagpataw ng dagdag presyo sa gasolina, krudo at kerosene ang mga higanteng oil petroleum companies.

“The failure of the Duterte administration to heed calls to regulate the oil industry is the culprit of the uncessant spike in prices with the fifth big time oil price hike in as many weeks this year now in the offing,” ayon kay Zarate.

Sa tala ng Department of Energy, apat na magkakasunod na Martes nagtaas ng presyo ng mga produktong petrolyo ang mga kumpanya ng langis. Sa pagpasok ng unang Martes ng Pebrero naman nakakasa na rin ang panibagong umento sa presyo ng gasolina, krudo at kerosene — 80 sentimos kada litro para sa gasolina, 70 sentimos sa diesel at 50 sentimos naman sa kerosene.

Taong 2021 pa nang manawagan ang iba’t ibang sektor ng lipunan para sa pag-amyenda ng oil deregulation law.

With petroleum as a sensitive commodity, because price directly affects the cost of almost all other commodities and services, including essentials such as food, housing, social services, as well as transportation, deregulation has given transnational oil corporations even more leeway to influence the country’s cost of living, livelihoods, business and commerce, employment, and the national budget,” litanya pa ni Zarate.
