NILAGDAAN na ni Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte ang batas na magkakaloob ng survivorship benefits sa mga buhay na kamag-anak ng retired prosecutors ng National Prosecution Service (NPS).

Sa ilalim ng Republic Act No. 11643, ang lehitimong asawa at dependent children ng namatay na retired prosecutor ay eligible na makapag-avail ng survivorship benefits.

Kasama sa mga miyembro ng NPS ang lahat ng prosecutors sa Office of the Secretary of Justice, Regional Offices, at mga tanggapan ng Provincial and City Prosecutors.

Ang bagong batas ay mailalarawan bilang “dependent” as a legitimate, illegitimate or legally adopted child “who is chiefly dependent” on the deceased NPS member and not more than 21 years old, unmarried, and not employed.”

Ang isang dependent ay maaaring mag-avail ng mga benepisyo maging anoman ang edad “as long as he or she is incapable of self-support” dahil sa anomang mental o physical defect o kondisyon.

Samantala, nakasaad sa bagong batas na ang surviving legitimate spouses ay patuloy na makatatanggap ng retirement benefits habambuhay hanggang sa sila’y ikasal na muli.

Ang pondong gagamitin para sa benepisyo ay huhugutin at kasama sa annual national budget. (CHRISTIAN DALE)
